Hambela farm encompasses 200 hectares in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Originally only producing natural coffees, Hambela now produces excellent washed coffees, using an eco-pulper to remove the mucilage, producing remarkably clean beans for a much lower water usage. The farm itself was created by Muluemebet Emiru, Africa's first female pilot, who served in WW2 and was gifted the land for her service by the Emperor Haile Selasse. Aman Adinew and his brother Michael, are her grandchildren and now run the farm. Aman was previously director of quality control at the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange, and was in charge of the first speciality coffee lab in Ethiopia.

With its storied history, this farm is unusual for many reasons. Firstly, a single farm of this size is uncommon in a country where most farms are less than 2 hectares. But also the farm is operated with a socially, economically and environmentally sustainable ethos. It is organic certified, has eco pulpers to reduce water usage, treats waster water from coffee processing, subsidises the wages of local teachers and supports the local school.  It also supports local farmers with technical training and by providing wet and dry mill services.

The most balanced of our flavour profiles, golden is sweet like caramel, & subtly fruity with hints of citrus or red berries. The golden profile lends itself to slow brewing and contemplation.
